My first was when my uncle (everyone has to have a cool uncle) got me "Ten Thousand Fists" by Disturbed. I never got tired of that CD, even now I have 10 000 Fists and Stricken on my phone. Before that, I never was really into metal. I listened to a bit, but that was the album that turned me into a metalhead.

What first got me truly into metal music was my boyfriend letting me listen Ever Dream by Nightwish. I was blown away not only by Tarja's heavenly voice but also by the arrangement of the music (Century Child is still on my top 5, along with Temptation's Heart Of Everything, and Sonata's Reckoning Night.) I was given Highest Hopes and after listening to that I was hooked. I was then introduced to Lacuna Coil, Epica, Otep, Within Temptation and Sonata Arctica. I tend to lean towards female lead bands but I do also enjoy Static-X, Eyes Set To Kill, System of a Down, Dragonforce. I very big into melodic/symphonic metal.

Obviously a lot of people's first real metal band is Metallica. But the first band that broke the barrier for screaming for me was Pantera. Phil Anselmo's stuff is good for that. Down, Pantera, Superjoint Ritual.

A lot of people have a strong aversion to screaming. I did, and look at me now ma! Listening to bands like At the Gates!

It was Iron Maiden, when someone bought me the two-disc limited edition of Best Of The Beast for a birthday or something. The metal fandom didn't really stick, although I still like bits and pieces.
