Normally in fillers. When a new character is introdued and they're acting like they hate everyone and that no one can be trusted because of their horrific past. BUT WAIT! The main character then changes them aand they realise that the world is full of fun and laughter! not douchebags...

the character that doesn't believe in fighting or violence or whatever so gets in the way, never does anything and always fails when they try to talk the bad guys out of doing whatever it is they were trying to do. Orihime in Bleach is possibly the worst for this. i haven't seen it since the end of the Zampaktou Mutiny arc but all she did pretty much since she got kidnapped by Ulquirra is say 'Kurosaki-kun' and cry. think she tried to talk people out of fighting (while she was crying!) but failed dismally. i used to think the same of Hinata from Naruto, all she did was say 'naruto-kun' but at least she didn't cry or get in the way. then she had that fight with Pain. granted she lost but at least she tried and she didn't go down easy.
Who's Pain? Is he in Shippuden or the, uh, younger days...the series before Shippuden?

"The game is more than a game". See Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and every anime made for a toy tie-in.

or

Several important plot aspects getting cut out to introduce "cute" characters. See One Piece. (Americanized Anime Only)

or

Americanized Anime theme songs. I'll say this much for Naruto, as confusing as that show was: the music didn't suck.

FRIENDSHIP SPEECHES!!! F*CKING FRIENDSHIP SPEECHES!!! That times the characters power by 10 to the power of bullshit squared so they can defeat the eater of worlds and killer of babies.

Or bad guy decay, such as Pain in Naruto "I AM PAIN STEALER OF SOULS, LORD OF DESTRUCTION! THERE CAN BE NO REAL PEACE SO I SHALL DESTROY WORLDS TO MAKE FAKE PEACE!!!"

[insert friendship/I know what you've been through speech]

"I am Pain! I believe in peace and rainbows and will sacrifice my life for rainbows"

Thats why I liked Aizen, he was evil just for the sake of being evil, nothing changed that, nothing will change that he is a bastard through and through and not just some pansy with lots of expendable income and superpowered artifacts that wasn't hugged by his daddy enough.

Oh also bullshit power levels the worst offender of this being Bleach, within a few months Ichigo went from normal kid, to shinigami, to vice-captain level shinigami, to captain-level shinigami to Vizard to stronger Vizard to WTFPWNTLEVEL9000 Hollow to God-mode.

The main character not getting laid.
This is the reason I actually like School Days.....

Also, the posing. Just the sheer amount of posing in every anime pisses me off. Especially the whole "we all look of into the sky and hope for a brighter tomorrow" bullshit after every new bad guy is defeated.

EDIT:
SEXISM!
OMG THE SEXISM!
not the outright "women are inferior to men" but when they make up a female evil character for no other purpose than to fight the good female character.
*stares at naruto*
God that pisses me off.

Hmm . . . what is my most hated anime cliche.

These are not ninjas

These are not Death Gods. . . well okay I don't know for sure but I always imagined shinigami to be more scary looking.

and these are not pirates
Bleach used to be good, but then Kubo turned it into an endless parade of continuous fight sequences and new characters who do nothing to advance the plot. I would've called it a melange but I don't know what "melange" means offhand.
Also: Quiet, you. One Piece is awesome. >:C

How Anime's have the main character want to be the best at something but they NEVER will get there.
Are you talking more about Pokémon or InuYasha here?
Along with Yu-gi-oh, One Piece, Naruto etc.
Well, those aren't exactly the same.

Pokémon is driven entirely by that "I wanna be the Guybest ever" thing, and there's really no plot there. Naruto's got a lot more depth, and there's an actual plot; Naruto's quest to "be the best" was more of a character trait than an actual plot element, and that seems to've been scrapped now that he's pretty much been turned into The Messiah. InuYasha, on the other hand, is more like Pokémon in that the quest could theoretically be written such that it never ends, with a new Monster of the Week every so often (and it pretty much was), but there was a plot there, despite it sucking horribly and being dragged out way too long for anyone to still like the characters.

...the ending of One Piece is actually planned out, apparently, but Oda's having too much fun writing the story. Or So I Heard. Dunno if I can or will deny that it's a quest-driven thing like Pokémon, but there's not even a vague measure of how close to being "the best" Luffy's gotten/getting, soo...

A guy who has trained his whole life is defeated by the main character, who simply was born with great skill.

Remember kids, training is useless!

The estereotypical "World of Warcraft" episode, though this might apply to every animated show, it tends to be a plague amongst animes.

It's not because of how they portray the videogame, which I am totally fine with. It's because the main protagonist, who has never played the game, who is a level 1 mage/warrior/rogue, decides to take on the biggest bad guy of the entire game single handed...and wins. I hate it when that happens!

For me, I don't mind individual clichés. It's the combination of certian ones that annoy me. Some examples:
1: Big boob chick + putting guy in awkward situations + nosebleed. WE GET IT. She has big boobs. If you want to show off, just have her constantly around. Or at least go completely over the top.
2: Mexican Standoff + Monologue. No need to state you're in a bad position, or the fight was brutal, we saw all that. And we don't give a damn about any mutual respect or newfound hatred. Just kill him.
3: Buckets of Blood + Band-aids Heal Everything. All that carnage and he's back to 100% after putting on some Band-aids? At least come up with a mystical heal-all item or something, not just Band-aids.
There are plenty more but these three were the first that came to mind.

arbitrarily placed Christian symbolism. What the hell has Light Yagami got to do with Christianity? Why is he annointing L's feet? Why is there all those crucifixes everywhere?

Also, most fanservice in a cerebral anime. It implies the writers don't think we have an attention span long enough for us to keep watching the show without the promise of titties every other minute.

I find it very annoying that they have to spell out everything for you, you need to know how the attack works, why a character is fighting, why my retarded plan is better than your plan. But of course, the audience already knows this shit because we have been watching the show from the beginning or the anime companies belive we are pants on head retarded.

Definitely the "this is the best thing around in X, at least until the next battle" cliche. Animes like Bleach and Naruto were notorious for this. That's why I prefer animes of that type to end in a timely manner, because I just can't take a most powerful attack seriously when there was a most powerful attack two minutes before it and there will be a bigger one next episode.

1. Awkward, unfunny, and unnecessary comic relief that serves no point other than to waste time and ruin the pacing.

2. Casting female characters with voices so high-pitched that they make chipmunk Justin Bieber on helium sound like Christopher Lee.

3. Casting male characters with voices so high-pitched that they make chipmunk Justin Bieber on helium sound like Christopher Lee.

Male characters getting nosebleeds during sexual-esque situations. Seriously, whats up with that?
Its actually an old wives tale that nosebleeds meant that your were aroused by something. I believe the idea is that during arousing situations your blood pressure increases and makes nosebleeds more likely or something like that.
