Yeah, it's also quite unfortunate concept albums have gone down the toilet, considering the trend towards the DL of individual songs as opposed to the recognition of the album as the prime listening format...it behaves as a reducing agent for the context of the art as a whole and totally downplays the significance of the listening experience.

I guess it really depends on whether the songs are meant to be listened to individually or in the context of an album. I generally discover bands through individual songs, anyway.

It's all focused on odd unnatural sounds and deep bass. I mean, what sort of mood is it trying to put me in? Am I supposed to be angry, sad, happy or something else?

Exactly. Like I have an album by the band Silverstein, and the songs are all great on their own (well most of them), and normally I wouldn't think anything of them being on the same album, but the fact that they're supposed to contribute to an overall story just doesn't really hold up to me. YES they're kiiiind of interconnected, but you could randomly reassign every song to any other Silverstein cd and they would fit in just fine

after searching a while back for some new music, I came across a few things that kind of annoy me
I'm not just talking about specific genres or artists you don't like (although thats certainly part of it)
just things that seem to regurly come up and piss you off
1. when you have an electronic track that actually sounds pretty good..it starts out nice, but then BAM it gets completly ruined by "lyrics"...some idiotic phrase repeated in the most annoying abnoxious way (you know what I'm talking about where the voice is all distorted into sounding deep..why do they do that? it doesnt sound good, it sounds fucking stupid)
(to be fair this isnt the worst exmaple..and I actually don't mind Bassnectar)
2. also electronic related, when I'm listening to a track..all is well but then the beat/temp shifts too...well I'm not sure what the technical term is (the type found in drum and bass genre) granted this one is entirly subjective, for some reason that combination does nothing for me..and kinda puts me off
3. ANY song with a guy and just his guitar (probably singing about a girl) blaarrgh..
4. alot of shallow songs about love..granted 90% of sings out there are about relationships but the same tired teenge style crap certainly wears thin
I hate when a song I like has about three or more techno remixes. Especially the mixes that simply repeats the first verse or the bidge of the song over and over for about ten minutes.

I REALLY don't like the idea of being up at 3 in the morning dancing to dubstep with drunken, half-naked women under strobe and/or blacklights. It sound offensive to most, if not all, of my senses, depending on the amount of physical contact involved and how intense the scent of alcohol and various other substances is.
That still doesn't answer my question, though: what does dubstep make one feel? What emotions does dubstep inspire in you, good sir?

It depends really. Sometimes it's just really good to chill to it, other times it's good for adding energy to something
However I will say this: original dubstep is shit. There's only one...uhm....composer that I enjoy original dubstep from and that is Ephixa. His pieces actually have at least some semblance of melody. In my opinion anyway

Remixes, on the other hand, I like a lot. Most of the time. If done correctly it amplifies what a song already made me feel on it's own, or it adds to the song some other way

When solo parts are "written" and played the same every time... I dunno... but to me it betrays the idea of a solo when it's not made up on the spot... that's why I like J Mascis... cause he plays his guitar solos different literally every time... though there might occasionally be a little part that's the same...<.<
To each their own, I suppose. If a solo is written before hand,(or better yet, just planned) they often have the potential to be mind-blowing because you have time to work out just how to let your music weave into the backing music. Also I thought the idea of solos is to give the spotlight to one musician and making up something on the spot is the idea of improvisation but I suppose I'm just being pedantic
Yeah to me it's not about working it into the song...or even being mind blowing... but to me it's a time of unbridled passionate fury filtered through an instrument without the constraints of other instrumentals getting in the way... that's why solos that are pure fuzz noise or solos that are "technically" unimpressive don't bother me in the slightest...<.<
and concept albums (although I can still like songs off a concept album). I mean, I like the IDEA of a concept album, but hardly anyone ever does it correctly. They usually end up being completely random songs with vaguely similar/related lyrics. I think the only concept albums I've liked are done by Dream Theater
Try "A Thousand Suns" by Linkin Park. A concept album about war, corruption and the atomic bomb with great thought given to presentation (like sequencing and production) and lyrics. Caused a massive split straight down the middle of fans and critics - between those that understood it and loved it, and those that only looked at albums as collections of songs rather than a whole. Also, it sounds very, very little like "normal" Linkin Park (nothing remotely metal about it, for starters).

1. People confusing dubstep with electro, or DnB. Especially when this means people who dislike "dubstep" automatically dismiss actual dubstep artists who sound nothing like those mainstream producers
2. People using any electronic subgenre (e.g. Trance, Techno) as a word for electronic music in general
3. Screamo being confused with metal/hardcore in general
4. Really overproduced, breakdown filled metalcore (and these bands' fans)
5. People who equate popularity with quality
6. Every single fucking youtube comment on any music video ever, especially "if you don't like it, why did you listen to it???" (that one is just so stupid ugh)
7. Metalheads who blanket believe all other genres (especially Hip Hop) are shit
8. People who blanket believe that metal is shit
9. Bands who in every single pre-album release interview bullshit that "this is our best album yet!!!!"
10. Bands who pretend they're doing something creative or different but keep shitting out the same old dull crap they've been doing for years
11. People who dismiss all electronic music for being "soulless" or some other crap

What I can't stand in music is mostly women screaming nonsense out of tune (I am looking at you, Katy, Christina, Rihanna and actually about 90% of the RnB genre!)
Then maybe we have different tresholds for screaming. All I ever hear in Rihanna's songs is whiny screaming, the worst being "Russian Roulette".
And Katy Perry... Well, she is autotuned, but still screams apparently out of tune (or in tune, and the tune is just awful), like in "Firework"

Seriously, I wish people would learn to fucking play instruments rather than getting a keyboard and turning it to the "drums" setting.
