I just played about half of Mirror's Edge. Aside from the usual platforming nonsense pissing me off, the usual off by .5mm so you fall and die deaths, blind jumps, and the oh "Oooooooh, that's where I was supposed to go kind of moments where you blame the game as much as yourself, it's pretty good. Unfortunately, everytime guns get brought into it can get really fucking annoying. if it was simply running around a city, maybe with chasing, fleeing and just general bits of dicking around on rooftops, I would have liked it more. Since so often you'll have to put up with asshole cops and and a complicated jumping maneuver you'll soon get tired of the clunky the gunplay mechanics that you force yourself to use so you don't get your tits shot off as you're trying to position yourself just right.
I would like it a lot better if the gunplay was toned down by a level or three or the shooting didn't suck a tremendous amount of cock. I think they should have let Faith carry a pistol so as to making this not be a problem. That or reduced the gunplay by a large amount. If you're going to make me fight, give me a combat system that doesn't suck. Or make it shitty and not force me to fight anyone. Ever. I can live with the shooting and violence to happen in a cutscene. I'm here for the parkour tomfoolery. I can understand where Cliffy B is coming from. Much like myself, give me a gun and an enemy, and I'm going to shoot him. Cliff is an instant gratification kind of gamer, the kind whose not happy unless he's holding a gun the size of a motorcycle and has an alien willy bouncing off the front of his space helmet. Give him guns and he's going to want to use them.
And on Demos/betas, while I don't agree with him, I do hate betas. A game shouldn't have a beta unless it needs one, like when Halo 3 had new guide options as well as saved films to test on a wide scale, and Little Big Planet needed to make sure that the PSN was turned on for them to use. I don't think COD4 needed one, nor did COD:W@W. Well, W@W didn't have a beta. It had a limited, at first (and is all of COD.com's members limited? I signed up there a little while ago and got an invite to both the PC and XBOX 'betas'; after the 'input by code' expired), release, and then was put up for public use. Seems a lot less like a beta and more like a Multiplayer demo.
