You should really headline with "Chrono Trigger Writer...", because that's really the only work Kato ever did that deserves everyone's proper respect. It's too bad he had to go and write Chrono Cross after that...

As for Nintendo v Apple, I have always held onto the notion that no convergence device will ever topple Nintendo's dedicated unit in the video game space. The DS has sold more than twice the iPhone, and the iPhone is a much more mainstream device with significantly more press, buzz, and ad dollars. At that size screen, I refuse to take anything without buttons and a D-Pad (or C-Stick) seriously as a gaming device. The more games I play on my iTouch the stronger I feel that way. Hell, Chrono Trigger DS alone is better than almost every game in the app store combined.

And no I won't bring up the iPad, because thinking that monstrosity will kill a pocket-friendly competitor is outright dumb. Nothing that can't fit in your pocket, at least a large pocket, will ever have a chance against eating any of Nintendo's share of the portable gaming market.

This is funny Microsoft wouldn't know how to make a handheld to save their live for an iphone.
Have you seen the crappy little games, they might take puzzle games and that is about it.

So we're to believe a $600 glorified tablet is supposed to defeat a less-than-$200 dedicated gaming handheld?

Right, and after that I suppose Kato is going to try to sell us a bridge. I don't see it happening. Hell even with the missteps they make I don't even see Sony falling to Apple.

Did anyone else hear FF7 remake for iPad? I'm sure the production time would be shorter than on the PS3...

The guy wrote FF7. If that wasn't enough to show that he's a massive idiot, these statements are. The iPad isn't a gaming device, and if it were marketed as such, it would be the one to flop. Look at how many people bitched about paying $600 for the PS3, a powerful home console, when it first launch. Compare that to paying $600 for the most barebones model of a HANDHELD gaming device. Nobody is going to buy it just for that, and therefore it can never dethrone the DS.

Not to mention the fact that this moron seems to think that Nintendo is already hurting... Digging their grave with the DS and Wii? This guy obviously has absolutely no clue whatsoever what he is talking about. The only thing Nintendo is digging is a pit to install a swimming pool in, and they will fill that pool with all the money they've made off the DS and Wii.

Anyone wonder hat this thread would be like if someone from Bioware said this?
People would probably agree with Bioware.
I'll disagree with anyone who says this, ever. It could be my own mom and I'd say "Mom, you're an idiot."

I say anyone who says this clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. Doesn't matter who. Even if Gabe Newell said it I'd still think it was a dumb thing to say. People don;t disagree with this guy because he made JRPGs. People disagree with him because he said something stupid.

You do have good point.

This man is an idiot. Why are we paying attention to what he said? So he wrote FF7. Whoop-dee-fucking-do. That gives him no authority when it comes to business projections.

Nintendo does have an enemy in Apple, but just like they always have, Nintendo will come out better for the competition. They did it with Sega, and they've only grown exponentially since then.
I gotta say that I agree wholeheartedly here. Nintendo losing their handheld dominance is about as likely as Mario going multi-platform.

(By the way, I played Super Mario Galaxy last weekend. Considering that the only two other games I had played on the Wii were Twilight Princess and Brawl, games whose Wii controls behave as if your hands had been encased in lead, I was naturally skeptical, but now I realize that the Wii can work as a control method, and it can produce games that look amazing without having cell shading involved :D

In other words, I have finally seen the light that is Wii, and it is good. I'm halfway considering buying one just to get the Galaxy games alone :)

Now my only question is: why the hell didn't Nintendo get this right the first time with TP? Hell, what happened with that game's development in general?)

Well if you guys want to know competition only makes Nintendo stronger and that has always been the case.

Do you think it's possible that you guys could start proof reading your articles before hitting the post button? There are more spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in this site's articles than there are on 4chan.
Did you know that "handheld" is listed as a typo? Just because there's a red line under it doesn't mean it's incorrect ;)
I'm referring to the replacement of the word "threat" with the word "thread". This is why I chose the words proof read and not the words spell check.
We do proofread. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. Happens. Thanks for pointing it out :)

I get that things slip through the cracks. I get that. But at least two thirds of the articles I read on this site have errors that slip through the cracks. You can assume that I'm exaggerating if you want, but I'm not.
Please let me direct you to:

Life will become considerably more bearable online if you learn to accept the imperfections of internet postings (and posters). Otherwise, it will drive you mad, I assure you!
But this is a proffessional post on a site about news, it is implied they know what is gramatically correct and are atleast formal spelling-wise. He's not being a Grammar Nazi, he's simply pointing out the mistakes and hoping they would fix them.

On-topic: Bwhahahahahahhahaha! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! BWHHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

He may be on to something, I was on the bus with my DS the other day and I thought "Man, I really wish this was big and inconvenient."

I don't really get the ipad. It isn't powerful enough to compete with laptops, and isn't portable enough to replace my DS. It seems to only have gimmick appeal.

Kato didn't write Final Fantasy 7, he was just a script writer. Writing credits go to Yoshinori Kitase and Kazushige Nojima

I really don't think iPad or iPhone is a huge threat to Nintendo. the DS is a gaming device, the iPad and iPhone aren't seen as a main gaming platform. imagine if we all took a chart of how many iPhone are sold compared to DS'. Then take away the margine that actually use it as a gaming device mainly. would they be even on the chart anymore?

Kirby. That is all I have to say.

Edit: Thinking about it, the lame opening for that Kirby anime would fit well for this.
