You should really headline with "Chrono Trigger Writer...", because that's really the only work Kato ever did that deserves everyone's proper respect. It's too bad he had to go and write Chrono Cross after that...
As for Nintendo v Apple, I have always held onto the notion that no convergence device will ever topple Nintendo's dedicated unit in the video game space. The DS has sold more than twice the iPhone, and the iPhone is a much more mainstream device with significantly more press, buzz, and ad dollars. At that size screen, I refuse to take anything without buttons and a D-Pad (or C-Stick) seriously as a gaming device. The more games I play on my iTouch the stronger I feel that way. Hell, Chrono Trigger DS alone is better than almost every game in the app store combined.
And no I won't bring up the iPad, because thinking that monstrosity will kill a pocket-friendly competitor is outright dumb. Nothing that can't fit in your pocket, at least a large pocket, will ever have a chance against eating any of Nintendo's share of the portable gaming market.
