Yes there is a such thing as bad music like you can't just stick a song together I know that music is an art form but is technical aspects to it that have to followed or the piece of music just won't sound right so yes there can be bad music.

I'd say yes, (and this goes for movies & games too) but any art form that is created purely for the purpose of generating money with no meaning or thought is wrong and in a way bad. If anyone likes it fair enough but it's still wrong.
I sort of agree with this. In my own definition "bad" music is the music that is created for corrupt porpuses. For example, pop-rap seems to be, in my opinion, the main kind of bad music to date. Most of that music isn't written because someone is trying to show their artistic side or let out some emotion or something meaning full, no it's mainly written because society today seems to like the idea of "smakin dem hoes" and so it sells. Even worse, the people who adore that "music" always say the same thing, "oh I like it because it has a good beat/rhythm." There are girls that like that music who became pregnant and feel miserable because the guy left them and yet they love that new "lil wayne" song that talks something of the sort. And honestly in a society that seems to love songs about "stanky legs" music as an art form is dying or not meant for popular culture.

If you can name one person who enjoys listening to serialism music, then i will cook and eat my shoes. It sounds like a small child pressing random notes on a piano/keyboard, however it is very strictly controlled by maths. It's the proof that skill in maths isn't all you need to be good at music.

Music is art. The only way art can become worse is if it becomes less artistic. And there is music that isn't very artistic at all...so yes, there is bad music.

Hey something new on these boards: Someone badmouthing Americans! Shocking.

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Zappa. I think you could, hypothetically, have only ever heard one song and you would know whether you like it or not.

Edit: Although I do think some people could broaden their horizons a little.
It's not meant as a quip towards Americans. The intent of the words is the key here, rather than the literal meaning. You could replace 'American radio listeners' with pretty much any nationality, cultural group, ... and it would still mean the same.

Hm. There's no such thing as 'bad' music, per se, but there is such a thing as bad writing, terrible singing and God-awful instrumentation, but then it's still not really bad; it's a departure from what was intended and what the target audience might enjoy. Bear in mind that people who have no idea what unclothed women look like rever rappers like the one you heard as gods, and that men who can't get any, even from their hand, listen to such music in the hopes of making themselves seem more awesome and I'm not projecting. So no, there is no such thing as bad music, only bad taste.

You're in luck! Last night I was at this huge dance where they were playing some god-awful music. I don't remember the names of them but personally I think they should take all these crappy rappers (Crappers) and sew up their mouths. But yes, bad music does exist, to back it up, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5SNOAcD3ak here it is.

But to sooth your bleeding ears here is some good music, free from boy-band faggotry, free from pathetic, ironic attempts at being "Non-conformist" from bands sponsored by huge companies and free from attempts at appealing to the desperate teenager demographic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcEEAjGtAkY

And heres something a little old-school, back when the majority of music was good, unlike today where for every good band unrecognized by a major label there are about ten try-hard, bad sounding bands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZtQh5EIgWQ (God bless the Beatles!)

I hate ALL music that is made by only a computer,(so no instruments.) So nearly all dance, techno, etc. It pisses me off so much when you hear a drum machine going at super-speeds, playing really complicated stuff. It makes a lot of people think that it's simple to play and if you can't you're obviously terrible.

This is the only Drum and bass I'd ever listen to..

Jesus Christ, that drummer...
This one is cool too.

How about instead of Drum And Bass, just Drum and Drum?

As far as bad music goes, they generally fall into two categories.
People that can't sing, or don't sing with the music and it doesn't work.

And Music that doesn't have a beat. Or is so screwy that it hurts your brain.

Well, music has the 'job' of entertaining people. As long as it does that it's a matter of taste I guess. But I don't want to ruin the spirit of the topic, there are a few things I would really want to label as bad. The best example would be this song:
Completely unimaginative and pretty much rudimentary lyrics and a melody that just keeps on repeating itself ad nauseum. This song shows barely any musical skill and solely sells on sex. I cannot possibly call that good.
Holy crap! This song was playing at this huge dance I was at last night! I could hardly hear the song itself but they were playing the video-clip on a big projector. Wow...it is awful.

People's personal opinions aside, yes, of course there's such a thing as bad music.

For example, imagine a group of kids who'd just that day bought instrument and decided to start their own thrash metal band in their garage, with no musical training whatsoever.

Anyone listening to the din they make would think it was bad music, and they'd be right.

The same with classical music, you can take the best written piece of music in the world, but if the orchestra are talentless and their instruments are out of tune, then the music they produce will be bad.

The opposite can also be true. From a technical point of view, the composition of a piece of music can be bad, and no matter how well it is played and no matter how talented the musicians performing it are, it will always remain a bad piece of music.

Music is art, and like all art, people's opinions on it will vary, but you can't always use the subjective opinion line of reasoning to excuse poorly conceived or poorly executed art.

There is almost absolutely no such thing as bad music. For example: Michael Jackson

Some people absolutely hate his music, but the man has so many fans that you have to admit he has talent, people who say his music is bad should be saying that they dont like it.

Its all personal preference, for example, I myself am not a fan of rap. Though I know people who like it. I would say that their music is bad, and barely qualifies as music, but they may say that my music is bad and barely qualifies as music, but the point is that the respective artists have talent in their field and it shows through the fact that they have fans. So in my opinion, barring bad composition as Jamash was speaking of, bad music is a nonexistent concept

That's nice, but reasons and links?
One song which proves bad songs (in this case terrible songs) exist:

Worst. Song. Ever....Of all time.
...............
............

Agreed. I could only ever consider this song to be even half-decent is if I was very, very high.
I probably would never consider it half decent, no matter what condition I was in.
