I don't really mind. Generally I only get/send friend requests if that particular person has done something awesome that deserves recognition and friendship... its just my way of saying "dude/dudett, your awesome!"

Only one person on my friends list do I actually know in real life :p

I dislike friend requests from people I don't know. I'm always worried it's some phishing technique, I get paranoid like that.

I usually get friend requests when I post a funny reply to someone and they like me for it.

Soon I will befriend the world with my awesomeness!
Then get put on probation for derailing threads, ninja thief man!

OT: I got one the other day. At first I was all like WTF?!?!?!!?!?!?! Then, I sent him a message saying what you'd expect it to and the reply was something about being a badge-collect (read: badge-whore). I was OK with it but it's just a bit weird.

I'll just put interesting persons to my friends list, maybe I'll get to know them better sooner or later

Only got one friend. Someone friended me for being Finnish, I think. I don't know why I haven't befriended anyone. I guess there's so many faces in here, I keep losing track of the sensible people.

I don't really post that frequently either, so people don't remember me.

I haven't had a single friend request on this site thus far (maybe using an avatar from a very depressing movie might have something to do with it). I can't say it bothers me.

On other websites (myspace for example), I get utterly annoyed because they are just trying to boost their friend count, similar to whoring for the badge here. Most times, I deny. I have no tolerance for that.

It's interesting. Despite the fact that I have 66 friends, I only ever regularly keep in touch with one of them. Whom I've probably pissed off by this point due to my irregularity with messaging and long periods of time without messages of any kind. You know who you are.

Anyway, a lot of the people who are my friends on this site I befriended when I was in my Forum Games & RP phase, so I did keep up with chatting between them then. Ever since, though, I find myself talking to people on my friends list less regularly, though I usually befriend people myself when I have a long enough discussion with them and they seem interesting enough.

As for the the odd person or two who just randomly befriend me, I don't really pay much attention and will just add them regardless. They probably have some reason for befriending me; they read my posts or something and agreed with what I had to say at some point. I think it's less being a friend of someone in that case and more a fan of someone (like it is on Kongregate). I'm guessing that's kind of similar to what happened in the cases of sv93, Neonbob and MaxTheReaper, all of whom resulted with over 200 friends due to what could be seen as more of a fanbase than anything else (though for the record, bob added me as a friend before I added him as one and Max I befriended after a short conversation about his 10k post).

I haven't been a member of The Escapist for a terribly long time, but ever since I started to be a bit more active on the forums, I've been recieving friend requests from complete strangers.

Now, normally I don't mind friend requests. There are a number of people I never even met in real life but who I still consider to be my friends. It's one of the coolest things about the internet, if you ask me. It's for this reason that I pretty much always accept those friend requests and add them to my friendlist as well.

But out of all the friend requests I've had on The Escapist, only one of them even bothered to send a message to talk to me about why they wanted to be my friend, and even that one only sent me one line of text and has never contacted me ever since. That's hardly what I call 'friendly'. I get the feeling that most of the people friending me only do so to get the 'X friends added' badge, which is pretty damn sad.

I haven't sent any friend requests myself because I don't feel I know anyone on this board well enough to call my friend, but if I did I'd at least send them a message explaining to them why I'd like to be their friend, and if they were interesting enough for me to want to befriend I'd certainly not add them to the list only to completely ignore them afterwards.

What's your opinion on this curious behaviour, forumites?

I add people I've played games with here, or if were planning something or I've messaged them a few times.

If I'm just asking a question of some sort I'll just send the PM but if I know we're going to interact then they'll be added.
But adding them here doesn't really do anything, adding them on Steam is helpful as we can organise games better, which is why all my "escapist friends" are on Steam.

Only 1 or 2 of my friends are people I have never talked to, which I didn't add.
[small](Except for the OP of this thread)[/small]

OT: No they don't bother me, adding people here doesn't really do anything apart from put their picture in your profile, you don't need to be friends to message so not really any point.

But I hate the whole "I have 23978945 friends, aren't I populaaar." Culture thing that a few people seem to be going through.

Whyyy? xD
Like wise, which is why I kinda have a grudge with people like Max. Not entirely because of the actual person. More like how many of his/her "followers" either love or hate him/her rather than just see what (s)he really is; just a normal person.

OT: I used to hate that, especially when I only joined just shortly. But then when I actually talk to the person who befriended (s)he usually turns out to be a cool guy(girl). So yeah, I don't entirely care because I'm sure I'll end up liking them anyway.

Don't understand why people seek that kind of attention,if there is anything good about communicating via internet then thats the anonymity and opportunity not to be frends with those whom you ineract with. Why is ii necessary to be friends with everyone because most people if not all are shit( yes me too and I'm not just shit I'm sociopathic shit )and if too much shit gets linked up it's bad news.

If someone sends me a friend request I accept and befriend them back. I assume they're doing it because they like my posts or I helped in in the Relationship Problem thread or something. I don't see any good reason not to be friendly to someone who wants to be friends with me.

I don't tend to initiate such requests though.

I like getting friend request. I need more friends.

I only really talk to one person here, though. But if anybody wants someone to talk to, I'll be happy to oblige.

Well, I have practically never had a friend request from anyone over the Escapist.

But I've had a turn in pickiness on my XBL friends list. I recently defreinded three people for being twelve and Scottish.
What's wrong with being Scottish hmmmm?

OP:I rarely get them,i normally send them to people i've had a convo with in a thread or group and i talk to them after i add them.
