Crying is fine in private. Crying is fine in the presence of your significant other(in fact, it's encouraged if you've known each other long enough). Crying in public in front of total strangers - only acceptable in the most extreme of cases.

This is what I believe to be true of both men and women.

Well, if you cry in front of other people it generally shows 'weakness', but everyone needs to cry every now and again. I have a problem for myself right now because I constantly feel like I need to cry but I never can. Tears tend to just flow out at completely random times, like when I'm trying to sleep or when I'm just walking. It's quite annoying.
My friend had that problem once. I was talking to her and she said she wanted to, but couldn't. We sat there in silence for a bit, then this little boy walked past laughing and screaming at some swings. I laughed to myself and just said "Thats what makes life worth it"...then she broke down and cried.

I did the same thing, I had a really shitty day, then my best friend told me something happy and the tears came-a-fallin'.

On Topic, crying is necessary to prevent exploding like a bottle-rocket. I've seen how people end up when they supress their feelings. They usually punch everything that slightly irritates them until they have no friends left. That or they kill something.

I think its a sign of weakness of course whenever I try to sleep my mind decides to mock me relentlessly and I fear I am slowly becoming an insomniac, so maybe not the right source?

I see nothing wrong with it. Personally, I can't remember the last time I cried. The closest I get is if something I was really keen to do or had been working on for a long time is destroyed, or if I've been doing it wrong. That and some films.

Is it macho?
Fuck no.
Is it ok?
Yes.

But it really depends on the culture... In Spain or Mexico male crying is completely acceptable

There is nothing wrong with crying, but if you cry from pain or fear you are basicly showing weakness to your enemy but no one can really blame you for your fears and pain. I cry very rarely, I gues its because I have cryed lot when I was younger.

I know for me it really depends
especially with guys
in our society it's more acceptable for girls to cry obviously
but even I don't wanna say that it's never okay for guys to cry
generally I start to look down on guys who cry when it's done in a very public setting, and when it's an obvious display of emotional immaturity...because that's just sad to see in a guy

Its acceptable for a women to cry, since its considered a feminine act.

A feminine man is a weak man.

Crying wont solve anything, dammit!

I personally do not cry, unless I'm laughing to hard.

I usually break something in rage, rather than cry about it.

I have problem with it, that's just me.

I've Seen a few responses which seem to be saying "it?s okay to cry anytime because its a release of emotion" but I believe their is a time and a place
When your angry lashing out is a release of emotion but (circumstances depending) its more healthy to bottle it up and release it at an appropriate time rather than on the nearest person I would categorize someone who cannot control their anger at all weak as well.

If your emotions control you completely you are weak like a sheet of paper which bends at any pressure.
If you bottle up your emotions completely you will become weak like a thin sheet of glass which will shatter at any pressure.
(The willow and oak for wheel of time fans)
The obvious response is "I can control my emotions but choose not to" but if you dont exercise your ability you will probably find it disappearing.

If you can weep over the despair of others you might just be one of the strongest minds on the planet.

'Damn you brain for selecting No, when you should have gone for Yes.'

People think I cry a lot because whenever I yawn I get tears in my eyes...... No idea what possible use it is but hey! That's what happens. I always go to great lengths to convince people that I was in fact not crying.

As for WHY crying doesn't make you weak, well it just doesn?t.

In fact it's a great way of luring your enemy in a false sense of security.

I really hope that was sarcasm. If a man needs to cry, that does not make him weaker than anyone else. A real man should not be afraid to show emotions. Also double standards are always bullshit.

It's ok to do whatever you want as long as your not commiting a felony. But no, its not bad to cry. Infact, those that say your a "wuss" when you cry, are actually usually emotionally weak themselves. I'd go into it but, I'm tired.

I wish I could cry really, there's so much pain and grief inside me that I can't give a proper place now. I'm stuck with balling it up inside me, killing me slowly. But tears never come, no matter how depressed or sad I feel.
