Anyone else thinks Zing needs to calm the fuck down? Face facts, it's WoW: Star Wars Edition with a few bells and whistles attatched. I've watched the gameplay vids and it's EXACTLY like watching my girlfriend play WoW.
I love Star Wars, but TOR (whilst looking pretty good) won't live up to the hype.

Also, on the note of voice acting, am I the only one that doesn't really care that they're going to be told to go kill x amount of Ewoks by some generic voice actor?

Will it beat WoW? Probably not...

Will it be a successful rival to WoW?

Most definitely.

Will this finally be another decent MMO since WoW?

100% Yes.

I'm sorry? How am I anything but calm? I'm just correcting the logical fallacies being posed. I hardly think being fully voiced is "a few bells and whistles" but whatever you'll think what you want.

What's wrong with the graphics and gameplay? And I hope you can do better then "they're poor".
Have you seen the footage videos? The graphics are the same as SWTOR and SWTOR 2, you would think an MMO from Bioware would have had better graphics, not the outdated crap it currently has.

As for the gameplay, The Old Republic is essentially the one player SWTOR 1 and 2 ported online with a subscription fee added. It barely qualifies as an MMO.

Maybe they should have have spent so much money on advertising and put a little more in to the quality of their game.
SWTOR 2? I guess you mean KOTOR...which graphics are not anything like TOR, that's just a lie.

So is it a WOW clone or a KOTOR clone with an online portion? Which is it guys?

I thought it might have been interesting...at first.

But the whole thing is geared towards playing Jedi or Sith. If you're not either of those two classes, you're gonna suck. Hard.

I might check it out once balance issues are taken care of.

Till then, not getting my money.

OT: I'm the type who thinks "What, Jedi are down there waiting for me? Glass the planet from orbit."

There's four Jedi/Sith classes actually, and four non-force classes, which are balanced equally to the force classes.

Look, don't lump me with that guy simply because it helps your argument (No offense intended Trebort, I know we're basically on the same side here).

By the way, please explain to me how being forced to listen to the same stuff spouted by a voice actor is somehow better than being able to skip a paragraph of text saying, essentially, go kill x amount of x because we told you to? That's all the voice acting is going to be, with a few "this is what's going on" cutscenes thrown in.

You can skip the conversations if you like. You're not forced. Myself and many other people who are going to play the game enjoy the conversations, that's why I play BioWare games too, it's very immersive and fun, especially in an RPG setting.

I like Bioware as much as the next guy, but having some guy speak what I could otherwise read does not differentiate from WoW enough for it not to be called a WoW clone.

Except no one does read it, so questing is boring. There's nothing behind it. With TOR the game is actually fun from 1-max level as well as at end game.

Would you play any BioWare game if you only received quests and read their flavour text?

Saw the gameplay for it and ....it's shit. The only thing that was remotely new and interesting was the space rail fights.

EDIT: Graphics were also kinda bad.
1.) The space fights are NOT on rail, that was confirmed to be a lie
2.) Why is it shit? It takes the core WoW gameplay, adds random number based choreography, highly improved ai, and that lovely star wars feel.

What makes it not a WoW clone is quite a few things

1.) Much improved AI
2.) Space combat
3.) Star Wars Universe
4.) Voice Acting
5.) Emphasis on story

Honestly, because WoW has had so few contenders, people think "same genre as WoW" = "clone of WoW"

How could it possibly be any different and still be an online action rpg?

Wait, that's totally not true.

I'm going to be a republic trooper, and you can bet I'm going to kick some serious ass with my Gatling laser

I'm very sceptical about this. BioWare makes singleplayer Rpgs, that some people like. Not even all people, who consider themselves RPG-Fans, are into them. It strikes me as awkward how anybody could take this history as a guarantee that they will not only be able to make a good MMORPG, which in itself is an entiryly different task, but also that they will be able to make a MMORPG, that beats the leading product in the market.

These are just general issues, leaving specific problems aside, like:
-Some people don't like Star Wars
-Many casual players won't be able to find their way into the Old republics Lore, because the most they'll know about Star Wars will be the old movies, which are difficult to relate to that lore.
-Casual players are where the money lies.
