because they're totally the first people to do that.

(I'm looking at you Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Age).

Did you saw the content of the CE? Also the game is 1/3 . They'll launch another 3 games god damn it .

Like I said , I'll probably buy ( the normal one ) anyway but I am just disappointed . We'll basically will end up paying 3x$60 bucks just to be able to play online after each xpac.
Where did you find out that you will have to pay 60 bucks for the 2 expansion packs? I don't recall ever seeing anything on that subject.

Please don't make so many claims without anything to go on.

That actually seems like a really good collector's edition, as would be expected of Blizzard. I disagree with there being 3 separate releases for each faction though, that is pure corporate assfuckery and I don't see how they could justify it...

They've justified it plenty many times now. The alternatives were: A.) Cut out a lot of stuff they wanted to do with the campaign, or B.) release the whole thing in 2014. You're not getting a third of a game, you're getting a full game that happens to be the first part of a trilogy. SC2 will be three times as long as SC1 when all is said and done.

It's like saying that Mass Effect 1/2 are bad because they're planned as part of a trilogy and dammit, BioWare should have just released all three games at once!

So you didn't get Diablo II or Warcraft 3 then? Good to know.
Never bought Diablo 2 and waited for Warcraft 3 to drop in price before making a purchase.
Great. And I'm not just saying that, I mean that honestly - if you stick to your guns like that, then more power to you.

I'm just saying that blaming Activision for this, or saying that "OMG the old Blizzard would have NEVER done this look how money-grubbing they've become!" (not that you ARE, but there are people in this thread who are) is patently false. If you don't like it, fine, and I can see why you wouldn't - but it's not like it's a sudden corruption or anything. Blizz has done this before.

I suppose you're right. When I feel like ranting I rarely make sense.

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. I had a feeling that each campaign would be long enough to justify separate releases, I didn't really do my research into it though... I suppose it's justifiable then, but is still very, very annoying if anything.

1. The 2GB USB drive with Starcraft/expansion is a $20-$25 value. Including SC2, that's $80.

2. If you don't play WoW, you could easily resell the pet code for $20-$30 on eBay. Including SC2 and the USB drive, that's a $100+ value.

That isn't even taking into consideration everything else you get. Blizzard has always released some of the best CEs around, and this is no exception. Being whiny about cross-promotion doesn't change that.
...
Do you honestly beleave yourself?. I mean really, who are you trying to fool.
How bloody ignorant can you be..

While the price is a bit high, most of you are overreacting. Some text on the Amazon page you might have overlooked:

Official pricing and release date have not been announced by the publisher. These are estimates only and subject to change.

Pre-order Price Guarantee! Order now and if the Amazon.com price decreases between your order time and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price.

Oh, and it's #1 on the Bestseller list after a day already, so apparently lots of people think it's worth it even at $100. And I have NEVER seen Blizzard release a CE at $100.

Warcraft III [http://web.archive.org/web/20010204015800/www.blizzard.com/press/000717.shtml].

Both of these were made well before WoW, well before the Activision acquisition. Blizzard pricing its games at $60 is not a new concept.
I know, it costs $60 here in Canada as well, not $70.
And our income rates aren't different, imagine if the game costs $70 USD or the likey $110 or $120 USD the CE will cost. That is how much I need to pay for these things.

From the press release we got yesterday: "The special Collector?s Edition package, which is priced at $99.99 and will only be available at retail stores..."

So yes, it'll be $100. It's also incredibly worth it, IMO.

Shut up. No, really. If you've ever paid for multiple games for a game that was effectively divided on the context of progressing the story, shut up. You're getting the story Blizzard wants to tell. If that really bothers you that much don't buy the game, or wait till it drops in price. I for one would rather see the story Blizzard wants to tell rather than the one that gets hacked down to fit into three races.
Exactly! I don't understand why people are complaining about this. Clearly we've been told it'll be longer, and I'm sure it will be epic.

Also, i've spent enough time on Bnet for SC and D2 that I can easily say i'll be picking this up. Hell... i STILL play SC and D2. If only some of my more recent purchases could boast the same thing.

In Canada the normal version is $70, what's the deal?
For those of you who don't know, 1 CAD = 0.998454 USD

Or rather, 60.00 USD = 60.0929 CAD

Fuck you Blizzard. Also, fuck you Activsion for your high price points.
Didn't they get the memo that most PC games are $50 dollars? And they want me to fork over fucking SEVENTY for the base package?
Probably the price for selling a foreign game in another country.

Aint taxes fun?
Though, a lot of American or even European PC games debut here for $50 CAD, or sometimes $60 CAD. $70 is insane. I spent $70 on the Oblivion collectors edition which came with a 100 something page book, a making of DVD, a coin replica and a map.

This is admittedly not much compared to the bunch of cool stuff you get in the SC2 collectors edition, but they're asking me to pay $70 for the BASE game.

Ah, must have missed that. Apologies. I already have mine reserved through industry connections. They just added a page on details for the content as well: http://us.starcraft2.com/features/collector/

Different taxes for international sales, probably.

But can't you just buy it through the regular Blizzard store at $60? And get it digitally distributed?

Were it any other game (Duke Nukem Forever non-withstanding) I'd get it digitally.
But this is Starcraft 2. I've been waiting 11 years. I need to hold it, I need to feel it - TO SMELL IT! To be able to say "FINALLY! IT'S REAL!"

We all know that new game smell is like drugs.
Delicious and addicting cellophane and plastic, mixed with the humbling odor of inks from the manual.

Anyways, the reason I'm angry isn't because the price is high, it's because the price is high and I damn well know I'm still going to buy the thing.

I concur with the sentiment, but not the wording. Reported.

I have to admit, I prefer the box and the new-game smell over digital distribution. Largely because (occasional Steam sale notwithstanding) it's cheaper in my experience.

People wouldn't be bitching so much if Blizzard hadn't made the mistake of announcing the expansions so early. Everybody without a brain sees this and goes WAHHH WAHHH THEY SOLD OUT!!!!!!! THEY ARE TRYING TO ROB ME!!!!!!!! If they'd just announced the game, then announced two expansion afterward, people would be cheering for the fact that more Starcraft was coming.

Seriously. Do some god damn research.

To me, this is probably the best CE of a game I've seen to date. I have no issues paying $100 for it. This is even better than the WoW CE's which I've actually spent MORE money on that this upcoming one(referring to SC2 CE). Despite the fact that I am a huge Blizzard fan, with the amount of work and quality they put into their games, I have never felt like they were asking too much. There have been many games that have asked a lot more, and giving you a lot less. Valve hasn't even topped this.

So, I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but $100 for that beastly deal is nothing to throw any fit over. IMHO.

I'll probably buy the regular version, but the $80 is the most I think Ill ever spend on a special edition of a game.
