To be brutally honest (and slightly biased) MOST British Comedy is funny;

Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python's and Now for something completely different
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
Red Dwarf
Little Britain
Father Ted
My Family
My Hero
Keeping Up Appearances
Live at the Apollo (yes, I know its stand up, but its comedy)
Russell Howard's Good News (see above)
A Bit of Fry and Laurie
QI
Jedward. Oh, sorry, they're not funny, just SHIT!

Seriously, I could keep going, but I would probably be typing till the end of time. If you can, try to find "Dave" or "G.O.L.D." . They're constantly doing repeats of most of the above, and iPlayer is useful for more recent stuff.

Enjoy. May the laughs come freely.

EDIT: Just saw previous post and actually hit myself. How could I forget That Mitchell and Webb Look. That you HAVE to watch!

My list:

- Blackadder (I actually would recommend watching the first series, just to get a taste of the other side to Rowan Atkinson. Alternatively...)
- Mr. Bean.
- My Family (I should however, on all accounts contain Nick (Kris Marshall)).
- Red Dwarf.
- Black Books.
- Brass Eye.
- Peep Show.
- My Hero (though watch the earlier series).
- A Bit of Fry and Laurie.
- QI.
- Mock the Week.
- That Mitchell and Webb Look.
- Monty Python (films and Flying Circus).
- Mock the Week.
- Spaced (It also has random cameos by some great british actors, with Simon Pegg's role arguably being one of the best).
- 8 out of 10 cats.

For Stand-Up, I would suggest:
- Russell Howard.
- Frankie Boyle.
- Michael McIntyre.
- Stephen K. Amos.
- Ross Noble.
- Jimmy Carr.
- Eddie Izzard.
- Bill Bailey.

Though they're both Irish, I would also recommend the stand-up of Dylan Moran and Dara O-Briain. both are brilliant, though really quite different.

Black Books

(Tho technically it's Irish comedy since Dylan Moran wrote most of it...then again he's based in London...)

All the suggestions so far have been excellent, but I'll add one more.

Green Wing. It's an acquired taste, but I personally find it absolutely hilarious. It's a mix of incredibly witty comedy and random bullshit.

WOW Someone else who saw Monkey Dust!!!!
There are more of us than you might think. Someone else on here has the Paedofinder General as his avatar. I do really miss this show, it was just the right kind of sick.
Monkey Dust was funny but it seriously pushed the boundries of taste. I doubt we'll get anything as sick as that again.

Fawlty Towers - It's John Cleese and you can watch it all in a day as there is only one season.
Uhm, aren't there two seasons made of Fawlty Towers?

I also recommend Fawlty Towers, anything of Monty Python, Blackadder and Little Britain. I haven't seen any other British series in its entirety.

As for stand-up comedians: Eddie Izzard and Michael McIntyre are two good suggestions. However: I find Lee Evans to be at the top of this category. That bloke is hilarious.

Hello fellow Escapist!

Just as the title says. I have seen Only Fools and Horses, The Young Ones, Bottom, Love Thy Neighborhood, Little Britain, Father Ted and 2D TV. But I want to see some others, I'm personally not into The Office (I dislike Ricky) and not really a big fan of Mighty Boosh. So recommend me some comedies
balckadder faulty towers and the thin blue line (damnit ninja'd)

in terms of stand up, micheal macntyre, frankie boil, stephen k amos, dara o'brien ed byrnes and ross noble.

for some comedy where you learn stuff try QI and if not try satire with mock the week or have i got news for you

Ooh, too many; you're a long way behind. Start with 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' (do NOT miss 'Life of Brian' and 'The Quest for the Holy Grail'), add 'The Goodies', 'Fawlty Towers', 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister', 'Red Dwarf', 'Blackadder' and just for good measure, 'Goodness Gracious Me' and 'The Sketch Show' (there was a brief American version of The Sketch Show, but it sucked- as usual).

And if you don't mind listening to old radio shows, 'I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again' is one of the funniest things ever recorded (although a lot of the humour is rather dated, especially when they mock politicians and celebrities who have been dead for decades).

Blackadder, Monty Python... If you want British you can't go wrong with anything made by or involving John Cleese.
