They're generally more willing to make teenybopper money-making music than actual art, so the record companies are willing to put more money into them to make them appeal to said teenyboppers.Fondant said:Why do inferior musicans seem to prosper?
And I have hip-hop artists in my playist whose songs don't contain any form of "I'm really rich and sniff cocaine, check out me hoes!", see how it works?Psychosocial said:On that topic title, I have this band called Tool in my playlist, and I can't think of a single one of their songs that contain any form of love. But I guess some mad rock fanboy will assault me and say "that's not rock, that's metal, whine whine whine" now.
It's accurate in the same way "All rap is bitchs and hoes!" is accurate.Harbinger_ said:I'm sorry but this -^ is not a good generalization of rock music. Emo music maybe and even then there are some emo bands that aren't all about that. If you're going to do an accurate or at least close to accurate generalization then do it about country music.
The title was intended to make people realise that these mass generelisations they make about groups on the radio are not true. I could turn on the radio now and hear MCR singing some shitty emo love song, however I know that the genre of rock n' roll has much more to offer, so do all of you. So, what I'm trying to explain is that it doesn't no make sense to judge a genre simply by what's big in the mainstream or what's being played on the radio. I don't actually believe "Rock is men screaming about their ex girlfriends" OR "Hip-hop is all about bitchs and hoes".Malicious said:Uh sorry about that i stopped reading after i read all that rock hating and plowed on,i overly judge people who defend rap and hate on rock, just the way i am,should have read the whole, but i dont understand how you can say rock is about grown men screaming about their girlfriends then say you love Metallica and U2,just makes no sence, you off all people should understand
Hip Hop is a genre made up of over 50 sub-genres. Rap is a vocal technique used within Hip Hop. Rap, as a genre, does not exist.Psychosocial said:As I said, I know there is rap that's not all about that, it's just that I don't bother with rap, due to the fact that it sounds horrible in my ears.-Orgasmatron- said:And I have hip-hop artists in my playist whose songs don't contain any form of "I'm really rich and sniff cocaine, check out me hoes!", see how it works?Psychosocial said:On that topic title, I have this band called Tool in my playlist, and I can't think of a single one of their songs that contain any form of love. Though, hiphop can be good, but that's not exactly the same thing, from what I've understood.
As for people who have argued along the same lines as Psychosocial, fair play to you, I can't say I particularly enjoy listening to Screamo, this thread wasn't made to convert everyone to liking hip-hop, it was simply to show that making presumptions are silly. Some of you seem to know what it's all about, but just don't like the sound, which is fair enough, more power to you.Psychosocial said:As I said, I know there is rap that's not all about that, it's just that I don't bother with rap, due to the fact that it sounds horrible in my ears.

Yeah, Gangster rap is called Gangster rap. It's a sub-genre of hip hop music, one of many. Nerdcore, Political, Jazz Rap, Trip Hop, Rapcore, and so on, there are many many more genres besides what you hear that permeates the mainstream airwaves, and it's just a shame more people don't get to hear it.Psychosocial said:I knew it was called rapping, but I always thought the more gangsta sort of hiphop was called rap, because that's what the people listening to it calls it. Guess they're all wrong.ChromeAlchemist said:Hip Hop is a genre made up of over 50 sub-genres. Rap is a vocal technique used within Hip Hop. There aren't any radio stations that play those bands in Ireland I've never ever heard them on the radio.Epifols said:What kind of friends do you hang out with? I'd say most people know at least half of those. A lot of people are just plain incapable to deal with the matter in a sensible way. I see pansies that hate anything that deviates from pure rock and metal, and I see the dumbwits that all they listen to is rap about bitches, drugs, and capping niggas' asses. No debating possible.
I just listen to whatever I feel like. Sometimes it's rock, sometimes it's rap, or other.
(Although the stereotype that all rock is a bunch of guy's singing about their ex-girlfriends is accurate a significant degree. It's been bothersome lately.)
I don't think this is the right place to advertise.chronobreak said:I don't know what you're getting at. Why can no one listen to what the OP is saying?Chartic said:The problem with your analysis is that most of the genre is people doing what everyone hates, singing about the degradation of women and how great they are. I admit there are good rap artists out there but the majority aren't
Um... I didn't write that. I really, really like hip hop.-Orgasmatron- said:ITT: minignu doesn't read the OP.minignu said:All the rap/hip-hop I've heard sound virtually the same, with the exact same lyrics thrown into a blender and all the proper English removed. Every single song has that "Fat Beat" which consists of one or two bass notes being repeated over and over again mixed in with some clapping. I don't see anything to like in the genre. And if you think all rock is about men crying about their ex-girlfriends, you haven't listened to very much of it.
Amazing group, one of my favourite of all time. I'm going to embed that.minignu said:Um... I didn't write that. For another example of less generic hip hop, I present The Roots (amazing live by the way)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAkQvVqrV9s
Hmm, interesting. We have whole stations devoted to modern rock stuff and metal.Glademaster said:There aren't any radio stations that play those bands in Ireland I've never ever heard them on the radio.Epifols said:What kind of friends do you hang out with? Also we have no Rock/Metal Radio station or atleast not any particular ones for a lot of genres to be honest.
It's not generalizing when it's virtually true with all of the hip-hop that I've heard. And yes, I have heard quite a lot of it.ChromeAlchemist said:Why can no one listen to what the OP is saying?Chartic said:The problem with your analysis is that most of the genre is people doing what everyone hates, singing about the degradation of women and how great they are. You are generalising. Generalising is what people do when they don't know what the fuck they are talking about. I can safely assume you haven't listened to most of the genre of hip hop, and perhaps you should listen to more before you make such a statement.
That's not rock.-Orgasmatron- said:rock music is men with half their face covered by hair crying about their ex girlfriend.
