Well, lets ignore the superficial aspect of this argument and try to look at what exactly spawned the stigma of homosexuality in the first place.

From what I've heard, it started in the early jewish culture, a people who were surrounded by enemies on every side. They needed warriors, and if you were sticking your dick inside anything but pussy, you were wasting precious resources.

On a Darwinian level though, to be gay means your genetic line ends with you. 4 billion years of the primordial struggle that brought you about must end and return to the icy cold non-being from which glorious creation pulled you. To be gay is to actively practice death. Perhaps thats a small part where the stigma comes from.

I don't want people to think I'm gay, and it's not because I'm homophobic; it's because that's not who I am.

Because guys are retarded. We don't know how to talk about anything other then tits and (women) ass. To be honest, I don't care what I say or how I act since its me being me. Guys that have to constantly say "no homo" or something to that extent are just...annoying. If it isn't in jest, then I don't want to hear it said, because I'm not going to judge your actions unless your bent over a table doing x and y with another guy. I mean, I don't want to go to a strip club simply because I find it...skeevy. Nothing really else to it, its just not on my list of things to do as a guy. Do my buddies make fun of me for it? Yes. Do they call me gay because of it? Yes. Do I get more ladies than them? Yes.

As just about everyone else has already said, society has fucked us all into thinking this way, for better or worse.

You'll find many self identifying "straight men" who troll gay hook-up sites. You know, they're not gay or anything...they just want some naked manliness.

Lol. Trust me on this, no it wouldn't.

(Well, maybe if literally everyone did)

But if it's just you, it has the exact opposite effect of what you're thinking it would have.

Dumb comment is dumb.

To be gay could be to be an evolutionary advantage in societal context. We could easily chalk it to a way of addressing overpopulation on a large scale so that resources are not wasted. That doesn't mean they could not tend towards caring for he young if they so chose, either. Also, with the way technology is moving forward nothing is keeping gays away from eitehr finding a surrogate mother if they are both dudes, or getting artificially inseminated if they are both female--heck, both of them could do it.

The stigma comes from the fact that society has morality hiccups from time to time, as shown by documented history. That's where.

To make dumb comments like the ones you made is to actively practice ignorance.

What really saddens me is that it's almost strictly a male issue as well. Girls don't harass each other for being lesbian or bi, and guys will respond with the token "awesome!" response. The comment by SimuLord about "bro culture" is frightening in how true it likely is. It's sad how much intolerance there is in the world. People argue, and kill, over race, sexuality, religion, class and even upbringing.
It could be its just "contemporary" or "Standard" Society thinks about this subject. Books that are thousands of years old say its "Wrong" to do that are the grounds that society is build on. Try and change the standards and practices then the world goes ape S*** over it. Sadly it is a male dominated society still but its still in a major transition\shift but in 20 years all of this will be an afterthought that society was stupid back then.

For a lot of people ignorance is bliss except when they are confronted by the subject. Then they have to decide. If I had to ask myself if I'm gay or not, I might be bi-sexual but I'm not sure. I've had thoughts about it but for now I'm straight. It will happens when it happens and I don't have a problem with people saying their gay or not. Doesn't bother me a bit.

The issue isn't that it is terrible and degrading to be a woman, it is you implying he isn't a man. It's just a simple masculinity and personal image thing.
It is degrading to women though (maybe not the ***** part necessarily, that one seems to have lost some of the gender implications), because it is using their gender as an insult. When people say that, they are implying that it is bad to be a woman or to act stereotypically womanly is a negative thing.

That is why it is supposed to hurt: men are men and women are women and we each have our roles to play and that is that, and if you aren't acting "manly", there is something wrong with you.

These kinds of things tend to change through the passage of time. Did you know, way way back in the Greek myths, the heroes would sit down every now and again and just bawl their eyes out over something simple as some other guy being unfair to them? That wasn't seen as being weak, though.

Nowadays that's horrible weak and lame. Perhaps the cycle is just an incredibly long one.
Being gay was also seen as being manly and crying was seen as cathartic and was totally cool to do at plays. Imagine doing that at a public film today.

EDIT:

Since fucking when? We have all manner of ways to procreate without having a strict one man/one woman relationship and you assume that all gays don't want children.

Also, the overpopulation thing the other guy said.

It's a double standard set up by the community. Girls can hug and kiss each other on the cheek and it's fine, but the moment guys do it's viewed as weird or wrong.

I like musicals, I enjoy pretty things, i'm a good dancer, i watch Ellan.
It doesn't bother me if people think i'm gay, and they often do, however if i'm ever asked i'll say "no i'm not".
I think it's because alot of men are afraid that it will hinder their ability to find a sexual partner if people think their gay but maybe it's less obvious then that.

Only ever encountered it with a jackass cousin from Florida (Million dollar heart, nickel brain)

I will state this though, as a hetero male I do look at a lot of women as I go about my day. Why am I to expect this gay chap I just met would be any different just cause he's gay?

I'm not gay, but... I'd let Johnny Depp grind me silly. No homo.

OT: I don't really try to act macho, and only use the saying "no homo" in satire, if someone were to take offense to anything I say I will gladly apologize (assuming they aren't just being over-dramatic).

Honestly I find it more annoying when gay men act REALLY REALLY gay. Don't misunderstand me, I have no problem with being gay and I'm not trying to say "hide the fact that you're gay", because I think people should be who they are, I just don't like people acting different for such a ridiculous reason, I.E., speaking with a lisp or pretending to come onto other guys as a joke simply because you're gay, or people with gamer-tags like "Gayboy52".

Whenever I say something like this people always assume I'm homophobic, so as a precaution I would like to state that I am not homophobic and I have a couple gay friends and a black friend named Steve, who likes to eat pie with a shot of whiskey. (that's right I'm using the ol' "I have a black friend so it's cool" technique)

edit: To clarify more, people who wear their homosexuality like it defines them annoy me.

I have a friend who does this. He admits he's homophobic. The funny thing is, because of just how homophobic he is, pretty much our entire group has come to the consensus that he's actually gay.

That aside, I don't do that. If someone thinks I'm gay, whatever. I'm not, but they're welcome to think that. Whatever floats their boat.

Just think about it; if humanity always knew itself to be a hermaphroditic race, we'd...still have breast and dick competitions. Damn. Stupid individual humans, always wanting to be superior to other humans.

XD. That sounds about right.

It is of course true that if absolutely everyone was a hermaphrodite, gender politics would vanish.
Nobody would worry about being gay or not, because there's only 1 choice anyway.

But in the absence of that, it's surprisingly difficult to get anyone to acknowledge there even is such a thing as a person who is not quite one thing or the other...

In the word's of Ron White:
"It's not whether or not you are gay, it's a matter of HOW gay you are."

I actually had this conversation with a friend, and it was eerily familiar to Ron White's act, so I had to do post it here XD

First off, my friend is a homophobe. He really does not like homosexuals at all. At least not males.
I tell him "Dude, we're all at least a little gay."
He says "Aw, screw that man. Prove it."
"Okay, do you watch porn?"
"Yeah, so what?"
"Do you only watch girl/girl action?"
"No, I watch guys bangin' their chicks all the time!"
"Do you like it when the guy has a soft little unit?"
"No way dude! He's gotta be poundin' her with a big thick sha...."

And that's when it hit him. =)
