I'm failing to see a problem.
He wasn't physically hurt or anything; most "hot sauce" is more vinegarish than truly hot; at best uncomfortable. Now if she's sprayed it in his eyes or something...
Twenty years ago, you were entitled to smack your kids if they acted up, now they practically own you and if you raise a hand you're looking at jail time.

Hot Sauce and Cold-Shower? Seems kinda 'mediocre?' compared to beating a child up or other...
Am I shocked? Not at all, I just think that that is a stupid punishment. I kinda can't believe that she would punish him like that. Some children can't even take a shower or are forced to have cold showers because of poverty so I don't see that as such a bad thing.
Seems kind of a 'dated' method of punishing someone. Pretty bizarre so I'm on the fence here.

I also doubt that she could have done any serious damage except a sore throat or 'burning' tongue. Me and my brother eat worse than a mouthful to Tobasco and the only thing that happens is my eyes get watery and I go batshit crazy >.>

EDIT:I just had like a teaspoon or more? of Tobasco and obviously that isn't what he felt but right now, my tongue/lips just sting and I feel kinda weird inside.
It's funny how people see this as disgraceful and yet they see nothing wrong with spanking. Of course it's child abuse but w/e.
I had my mouth washed out with soap before for lying, and for swearing at a young age.
As for the Tabasco sauce I see it the same way, it's not really going to cause any physical damage, it's discomforting and probably a little painful to the child, but far from abuse in itself. Nor is the cold shower, it can be a little painful, but it's not like she is making him stand in a bucket of ice water. The real abuse in the video is the fact that the child is so afraid of the mother that he doesn't even want to talk to her about what he did. She constantly belittles and humiliates him with the punishments, it's in the way she talks to him, and the way she acts.
Punishments are about instilling discipline, they are about discouraging behavior, it's not the child the was bad but their actions. Taking it so far that the child is terrified of even talking to you is just plain wrong.

Yes, she could have done a lot worse, but what she did was terrible. When your own child fears you, it's time to take a step back and sort yourself out.
And the "What do you get when you lie to me?" "Hot sauce" tells me that this is a regular punishment. A punishment that clearly doesn't fucking work, otherwise he'd stop lying. Or does the mother think her son is going to grow up being completely honest, all the time?

When we're talking about a KID she ADOPTED, insane doesn't begin to describe it.
Thare's nothing wrong with this, really. Hot sauce doesn't do any long-term damage, it just stings for a while. Maybe a long while, yes, but not for the rest of his life. And the cold shower? It's a COLD SHOWER. It's a shower, and it's cold. I don't think someone's died by having water pouring on them. Maybe slipping thin the shower, but not just from the shower.
